55th Annual Anomalous Absorption Conference (AAC2027)

On behalf of the Anomalous Absorption Conference Board of Directors, we are pleased to welcome you to the 55th Annual Anomalous Absorption Conference at Sebasco Harbor Resort in beautiful Phippsburg, Maine.
The Anomalous Absorption Conference brings together researchers and scientists working across high-energy-density physics, inertial confinement fusion, laser–matter interaction, and related areas. As in previous years, the conference will combine technical presentations with opportunities for informal discussion and recreation.
We will begin on Sunday, June 6, with a welcome reception in the Pilot House at 6:00 p.m. The conference will conclude on Friday, June 11.
Sebasco Harbor Resort is located on the Maine coast in Phippsburg, surrounded by the harbor, rocky coastline, beaches, historic sites, and other attractions of Midcoast Maine. The resort offers a variety of activities and amenities, with opportunities to relax and explore throughout your stay.

Student Financial Assistance

Registration Includes
Registration is expected to include:
- All conference sessions and scheduled conference activities
- Catered lunches Monday through Thursday and a boxed lunch on Friday
- The Sunday evening reception and Wednesday evening banquet
Evenings, excluding the banquet, are open for attendees to enjoy local dining options in Phippsburg or at the resort, with time to relax and connect with colleagues.
Abstract Submission
Abstract submission opens February 5, 2027. The submission deadline is April 2, 2027.
Once submissions open, send your abstract to aac2027@anomalousabsorption.org. The abstract template and instructions for formatting and length will be available soon.
Attendees will be notified of the status of their submissions by the end of April.

Sebasco Harbor Resort will host the 55th Annual Anomalous Absorption Conference. The resort is located on the coast of Phippsburg, Maine, and offers accommodations throughout the property, including traditional guest rooms, suites, and cottages.
Room Rates
Conference room rates range from $169–$299 per night, depending on the room or accommodation selected.
A limited number of larger cottages are also available at higher rates. These may accommodate multiple guests and offer an option for attendees who wish to share accommodations.

Getting to Sebasco Harbor Resort
Sebasco Harbor Resort is located in Phippsburg, Maine, approximately one hour from Portland International Jetport.
By Air
Portland International Jetport (PWM) — Portland, Maine
Portland International Jetport is the primary airport recommended for attendees traveling by air. The airport is approximately 49 miles from the resort, with a typical driving time of about one hour and ten minutes, depending on traffic and road conditions.
PWM offers rental cars, taxis, and other ground transportation options. Rental car companies serving the airport include Alamo, Avis, Budget, Dollar, Enterprise, Hertz, and National.
Boston Logan International Airport (BOS) — Boston, Massachusetts
Boston Logan International Airport is another option for travelers who find more convenient flights into Boston. The airport is approximately 150 miles by road from Sebasco Harbor Resort, with a driving time of approximately three hours, depending on traffic.
Attendees flying into Boston should plan for additional travel time to reach Phippsburg.
Rental Cars
A rental car is recommended for attendees who plan to explore beyond the resort. Portland International Jetport has several rental car companies located on site. Please plan transportation to and from the resort in advance.
About Sebasco Harbor Resort
Sebasco Harbor Resort is a coastal resort in Phippsburg, Maine, on a large waterfront property overlooking the harbor.
The resort offers waterfront recreation, a heated outdoor saltwater pool, a nine-hole golf course, tennis and pickleball courts, bicycles, lawn games, bowling, dining, and other seasonal activities. Some activities and amenities are seasonal or weather dependent.
The resort’s location also provides access to beaches, historic sites, hiking, lighthouses, museums, and other attractions throughout Phippsburg and Midcoast Maine.
Things to Do Around Phippsburg
AAC2027 will take place in one of Maine’s most scenic coastal areas. Attendees who arrive early, stay after the conference, or have a free afternoon will find plenty to explore.
Popham Beach State Park
Popham Beach State Park has a broad sandy beach at the mouth of the Kennebec River. The beach changes significantly with the tides and offers opportunities for walking, swimming, and enjoying the coastline. Sebasco Harbor Resort lists Popham Beach at approximately seven miles from the resort.
Fort Popham
Located near the mouth of the Kennebec River, Fort Popham is a historic coastal fortification dating to the Civil War era. Its waterfront setting makes it an easy addition to a visit to Popham Beach.
Fort Baldwin
Fort Baldwin is a historic coastal defense site in Phippsburg, with historic fortifications and wooded areas overlooking the Kennebec River and surrounding coastline. Sebasco Harbor Resort lists Fort Baldwin at approximately 6.7 miles from the resort.
Reid State Park
Reid State Park, in nearby Georgetown, features wide sandy beaches, coastal trails, and scenic views. The park is also known for its surfing and bird habitat.
Bates–Morse Mountain Conservation Area
The Bates–Morse Mountain Conservation Area protects approximately 600 acres of coastal habitat and provides access toward Seawall Beach. Attendees interested in hiking and coastal scenery should check current access and parking information before visiting.
Maine Maritime Museum
In nearby Bath, the Maine Maritime Museum explores Maine’s maritime history through exhibits and historic vessels. Sebasco Harbor Resort lists the museum at approximately eight miles from the resort.
Bath
The nearby city of Bath offers historic architecture, restaurants, shops, and additional opportunities to explore Midcoast Maine. Bath is also home to the Maine Maritime Museum and the Bath Iron Works shipyard.
Lighthouses and Coastal Excursions
The area surrounding Phippsburg is home to several historic lighthouses and opportunities for boat-based sightseeing. Sebasco Harbor Resort highlights Seguin Island Lighthouse and Doubling Point Lighthouse among nearby attractions.
